WOUNDED SOLDIERS
Corp. Arthur Herbert McCartney Cleeland who has been reported as wounded is the sixth son of Mr F. M. Cleeland, grazier, of Lilydale, and is 29 years of age. He served through the Boer war. Whilst residing in Stawell some years ago he was one of a party that rescued a child's body from an abandoned shaft, 1000ft. deep, under very trying circumstances and was awarded the Royal Humane Society's medal and a gold medal for his performance. His two brothers also went through the Boer war, and the trio came through the ordeal un-scathed.
