BENALLA, SUNDAY

The Criminal Court was continued on Saturday before Judge Kerferd. Robert Ashton pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery, and was sentenced to two years' imprison- ment. James Cleeland was found guilty on a charge of forging and uttering a cheque at Yarrawonga for £61, and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment.

James Cleeland found guilty at the December sittings of the Court for administering poison to his wife at Elsternwick with the intention to murder her, and on whom sentence was deferred on account of his eccentric behaviour in the dock, was sentenced to four years hard labour by Judge Hood this morning.
