OBITUARY
The death occurred on Sat (at his home at Cannie) of Mr James Fraser aged 74. (Born 1865). He leaves a widow and 2 sons, Graeme & Fraser and a daughter Nita. He married Flora Kathleen Page in 1900. He trained as a Surveyor in Melbourne and carried out survey work in the Otway & Macedon Ranges, and later going to Mansfield as Engi-neer in 1898. In 1908 he moved from Mansfield to Kerang as Shire Engineer, a position held until 1918. It was during this period that the 1st metal roads were built in Kerang. Being also a Civil Engineer and a licensed sur-veyor, he was involved in opening up Crown Lands. He continued in private practice as a civil engineer/surveyor until 1925 when he retired to his property at Cannie (Nulgerong), grazing sheep & growing wheat. He was a very fine type of man with sterling qualities, but 14 years ago, suffering neuritis, has affected his health since. Quambatook Times Nov. 1938
